This has been one rough week with Kennedy. It all started off when we got back home from Little Rock after a long weekend of celebrating Kennedy's 1st birthday. After her wellness visit last Friday, the doctor and nurse warned us that Kennedy may have a reaction to her immunization shots, but we had no idea it would be so bad. We sent her to daycare on Monday knowing that she probably wasn't feeling her best, but we decided to take our chances. However, we got the call that she was running a fever. After calling the doctor, they told us it was a reaction to the MMR shot that she received. She had a scary fever that lasted for two days. At one point, it got up to 104 degrees that freaked Trent and I out. We immediately started giving her some cold water baths to get the fever down. On these two nights of fever, we got little sleep, and we let her sleep in the room with us. It was so sad because our little peanut was feeling so ill. We felt so sorry for her! By Wednesday, the fever was gone, and she got to go back to daycare. We thought that all was over until Thursday she broke out with a major rash all over. The doctor said that it was another side effect from the shot. We were starting to wonder how many side effects were there, and we hoped that this would be the last. The poor girl looked like a leprosy baby. They allowed her back into daycare with a doctor's note because she was not contagious. However, I think they probably kept her away from most of the other kids because she was kind of scary looking. By Friday, the rash had gotten worse. We had such a big weekend planned that included the Little Gym, dinner with friends, a birthday party and an Easter Egg Hunt. We didn't know whether to cancel our plans or call everyone ahead of time to let them know about her rash and tell them that she was not contagious. Luckily by Saturday, the rash was off her face, and it had moved to other areas of her body that could be covered up by her clothing. We were relieved. It is not that we don't love our baby girl no matter what, but if ya'll could have seen her, you would understand. If I was a parent who saw another baby that looked the way Kennedy did, we would not be going near that child. Anyways, by Sunday, the rash was gone just in time before the Tri Delt alumni Easter Egg Hunt. Kennedy had fun. We missed the egg hunt, but she got to see the baby ducks. She enjoyed climbing the winding staircase. Maybe one day she might be a future Tri Delta. Do you think that she was climbing the stairs to already pick out her room? Who knows?
